Is heart rate same as pulse rate

Both heart rate and pulse are highly significant to show our body performance and overall body condition. To monitor a patient’s performance, these two are most vital parameters. The frequently asked question if heart rate same as pulse rate. Well, the answer of that question is yes. It may seem strange but a proper understanding of anatomy and physiology of our body cardiovascular system can make it clear.

Heart rate and pulse rate are all same

Heart rate and pulse rate are all same

Heart pumps blood into all body parts at a certain frequency rate and that frequency of contraction and relaxation is called cardiac cycle which is controlled by our central nervous system. The contraction and relaxation are known as systole and diastole. In systolic pressure, heart pumps out blood to all body organs and in diastolic pressure blood gets back to heart. This cardiac cycle sequence produces heart beats which is normally 60 to 100 BPM. It is normally lower for better physically fit persons which indicates better cardiovascular stand-in.

Cardiac cycle forces blood through our arteries in a sinusoidal manner which expands and contract our arteries depending on the systole and diastole.  Thus pulse rate is nothing but the heart rate reflected on other parts. This is similar to having passed a same signal of same frequency through a channel. The signal is generated in our heart, passed through arteries and detected in other body parts.
